Jan does Switzerland!

In Zürich, a nice summer day The city as seen from a church tower Lake Zurich and the surrounding city

As usual, Miho came with me from Japan. We arrived in the evening July 31, and Markus came to meet us at the airport. He lives in Winterthur, which is a nice town 15 minutes from the airport. The next day we went in to Switzerland's biggest city, this together with Markus and his girlfriend, Vivian. Zürich straddles the Limmat River as it leaves the northern end of Lake Zürich. Most of the city's sights are situated in the old town, which contains the famous churches of St. Peter and Fraumünster. Miho here points at the river, obviously very proud to have found it. We visited Zürich on a beautiful day, and the weather could not have been better. I especially recommend a boat trip of the river, and to bring bathing trunks. The water is so clean that it is tempting to drink it!

Eating cheese fondue, a Swiss traditional dish Mount Säntis (2562m) Mount Säntis (2501m)
Cheese fondue Mount Säntis Mount Säntis
Markus really wanted to give us a taste of Swiss food, and thus made some cheese fondue when coming back from Zürich. It is basically a dish that tastes much better than it smells, and it is made from, you guessed it; Cheese. It is course also a dish to be enjoyed with friends, and this preferably during winter. Mount Säntis is 2501 high, and one does not have to walk to reach the top. Like everywhere else in Switzerland, a lift does the work for you! I guess that ruined any perception I had of Swiss people as being healthy and vigorous. The view from the top was extraordinary, this even though we went up on a fairly cloudy day. Here is another picture, this time of Miho and myself, and I think we look like the attractive couple we really are. The mountain is only about an hour from Zürich, but it is recommended to go there on a day trip. We actually walked down from the mountain, and that proved to be even more enjoyable than it was strenuous.
